About Mersea Museum

Mersea Museum is the island's volunteer-run local museum, with changing exhibitions and a rich collection of Mersea stories. Founded in 1976, it displays material about island life, fishing, oystering, wildfowling, boatbuilding, archaeology and local families.

Its main exhibition changes annually, while the resource centre provides access to photographs, records, articles and other local-history research. The museum has a shop and accessible ground-floor displays. Opening is seasonal, with exhibition and resource-centre dates available on the museum website.
